Here I am back in Italy. Perhaps it is not a visit, but just a quick step. I have to embark as soon as possible, within 2 days, in Bari, and reach Istanbul within the 25th. So I just have time to review the best friends for a coffee and anything else.
Yesterday, just arrived in town, I joined the parade of the "Zero Waste Alliance", which these days has been hosting a meeting with delegations from around the world on waste management. Obviously the institutions don't take part in the workshops, locked in their "envy" or "complicity".
Leading the parade was father Alex Zanotelli, a legendary figure unknown to the Italian television mass odience. But after all is from beneath the ashes that the fire that sleeps will burn tomorrow.
To return to Naples touched me. To return to this house. These walls truly speak. Keep some of the most beautiful memories of the past few years. It seems to me that any time I could expect that from behind a door all of a sudden people of today and those of yesterday, with a cake in hand, could get out like in my 33th birthday in August 2007 and say: "Surprise! Thought it was all true, it is just a joke! Here we are, we are all still here, around you, we love you and we don't leave you". But there are those who has gone on their way, those who have torn their promises, those who fled, who has been lost. Yet these walls have this power, yet retain their voices: where are you, Emilio, Senem, Alessandro, Christina?
"The anguish is the price of being oneself", says Silvio Rodriguez. It was so beautiful to love, was so beautiful to rejoice together, so now this is a strong feeling of anguish. The burden of going forward alone.
But the road ahead is certainly not lacking. Indeed it is calling aloud. And I returned the hurry to go. We will have time tomorrow to ask why what we have lived, what we have believed, was suddenly disappeared one day...
